We offer the beautiful Silver Spangled variety! They are white with pretty black polka-dots, giving them a cheery, unusual appearance, with their funny, feathery heads. Even though it is often this peculiar look that attracts people to them, they are actually quite efficient producers of medium or large white eggs.

Spitzhaubens have a two-spiked "V" comb and a medium-sized crest that perches in silly glory on the top of their heads. The breed was actually named for the local ladies of Appenzellerland in Switzerland, who traditionally wore lacey bonnets. I don't know that I would be happy about that homage if I were an Appenzeller-lady, as the breed is also described as having "large, cavernous nostrils"!

This very rare variety is good at foraging and free range well.  In fact, we don't recommend keeping them if they must be confined. They will roost in trees when allowed.  We are very proud of the eggs that we're offering and know that you'll be pleased with the spritely chicks that hatch from them!

You can read more about Spitzhaubens here.

TBD
We guarantee that the fertile hatching eggs you order from us will arrive intact and ready for incubation. If any eggs for which you have paid arrive cracked or broken, contact us within two business days of receiving them with photos of the damage.

IMPORTANT: Receiving unbroken eggs is NOT a guarantee that they will all hatch. Why? Read more, here.

Unfortunately, we are unable ship hatching eggs to Hawaii.

DID YOU KNOW: We've just published a new, free e-book, "The My Pet Chicken Guide to Incubation & Hatching," helpful information for the novice and experienced hatcher alike.
