Barred Plymouth Rocks, frequently called Barred Rocks for short, are one of the most popular dual-purpose chickens in backyards and on on small farms today, and for good reason: they're friendly, great layers of large brown eggs. They can't be beat for steady, faithful chickens. They are cold hardy and good winter layers, too! The chicks are cute, hatching mostly black with a small white or light spot on their heads.

If you have a keen eye, you can even make a good guess as to the babies' sex with barred chickens like the Barred Plymouth Rock. Males will have a larger, lighter spot on their heads, and lighter colored legs, too. Females will have a smaller, darker spot on their heads, and will have darker legs. As they grow, you can see which you were able to guess correctly!

The Barred Plymouth Rock was developed in New England in the early 1800's  and is an ideal American chicken.  They are sweet, quiet and content birds that are a joy to own and raise.  The line of Barred Rocks that we're offering as eggs has exceptionally fine barring.

IMPORTANT: Receiving unbroken eggs is NOT a guarantee that they will all hatch. Why? Read more, here.
