Bantam brahmas are
gentle sweeties with feathered legs and feet and profuse, fluffy
feathering. Large fowl Brahmas are HUGE chickens, but these are the bantam buff variety. As Brahmas, they are on the large size (for bantams), but tend to be calm, friendly birds not prone to being startled easily.
Originally from India, this breed was designed for meat
production, though the hens lay relatively decently and are great
setters and mothers. It is not used for a "meat breed" today because they grow so slowly, and can take almost a year to reach full size (as compared with six weeks for modern meat hybrids.) Lucky for the Brahmas!
So this fancy breed of chicken makes a great pet. They are tolerant of both heat and cold, and lay decent sized eggs for a bantam variety--and at a decent rate--although they do occasionally go broody. If you want pet bantams, this is one of the most popular varieties, and for good reason! They are wonderful birds.
