|Polish are a very
special and unique breed of chicken with their huge bouffant crest of
feathers and v-shaped comb. They are tame but their behavior can be a
bit wacky since their crest limits their vision, so they can startle easily! The Golden Laced variety is lovely, with each buff feather framed in black.
When in a flock with
more aggressive breeds, Polish will tend to be on the low end of the
pecking order, so keep this in mind when planning your flock: other breeds may like to peck at the crest and if this gets out of hand, your Polish can really get injured. If your coop and run have little space for birds on the low end of the pecking order to hide, be sure to plan your flock composition responsibly .
Egg laying is unreliable for this breed, and the eggs tend to be small. In short, Polish are sweet, beautiful exhibition birds, but a small flock of Polish is probably not the best choice if you want lots of eggs.
