Hatching Eggs - Golden Cuckoo Marans
You may never have even heard of the Golden Cuckoo variety of Marans! This variety is exceedingly rare, and most hatcheries don't even offer them, whether as eggs or day-old chicks. The Cuckoo Marans chicks you find offered at hatcheries are all of the Silver Cuckoo variety... and frankly most hatcheries even consider SILVER cuckoo Marans to be rare birds.
The beautiful feathers of the Golden Cuckoo are
crossed throughout with irregular dark and light golden colored
bars, like sunlight through winter branches. The plumage is similar in some ways to Crele coloration. We anticipate that these eggs will be hard to keep in stock, so order early to get in line!
If you have a
keen eye, you can even make a good guess as to your new babies' sex with
barred chickens like the Golden Cuckoo Marans. Males will have a
larger, lighter spot on their heads, and lighter colored legs, too.
Females will have a smaller, darker spot on their heads, and will have
darker legs. (These will be clean-legged chicks).
Egg color with this variety is dark to medium dark, but not the deep chocolate of the Black Coppers. Colored eggs are always a more brilliant color early every laying season, and slowly
fade as the season progresses. Please be patient when ordering these eggs, as there may be a long line!
