We want you to be confident when purchasing at My Pet Chicken!
Because we sell so many different types of items, our return policy varies by item.
Please read below to learn about applicable guarantees, return policies and cancellation policies for the items we offer.
Live chicks, chickens and fertile hatching eggs
HOW TO CHANGE OR CANCEL AN ORDER YOU'VE ALREADY PLACED :
Want to add or remove items from your order, change your scheduled ship date, or cancel your order? We're happy to help! In some cases the new ship date or breed you want won't be available, but we'll try our best. We just ask that you phone us with this information during our normal business hours, and that you do so by the following deadlines:
- Chicks, Chick Packs™ and 6-Week-Old Chickens: by the Thursday before your scheduled ship week
- Fertile Hatching Eggs: a full week before your scheduled ship week
Orders placed within the above-mentioned time frames will not be able to be changed or canceled. We reserve the right to charge a non-refundable $5.00 fee on changes or cancellations to any orders of live animals or fertile hatching eggs.
(If you weren't able to cancel or change your order in time, perhaps you might find a home for your birds or eggs with a local farm, feed supply store, or 4-H club. You can also try a post on Craigslist!)
48-HOUR LIVE ARRIVAL GUARANTEE:
We guarantee that you will receive healthy, live chickens from us, and that they will survive their first 48 hours in your care, provided you
properly cared for them
. If your chickens are acting unwell, please contact us immediately so we can help you troubleshoot.
In some rare cases, due to circumstances beyond our control, chickens do perish in transit. (Related: Why we still love what we do.) However, we can only refund for losses provided that you met your obligation to
your birds, and that you notify us of any losses within 48 hours of receipt.
For baby chicks, in the event that fewer than half the chicks perish,
we will refund
your credit card for the cost of the chick(s). Alternatively, you may choose to have (a) free
chick(s) of equal or lesser value on a future order. If you opt for the latter, you will be responsible for the cost of shipping, as well as enough additional chicks to meet
the minimum allowable number of chicks for your zip code, in accordance with My Pet Chicken's "safe minimum"
policies. Regardless of which option you choose, My Pet Chicken does not
refund any part of shipping costs. Once My Pet Chicken has either reshipped your chick(s) or refunded as above, our obligation with regard to the lost chicks is ended.
For baby chicks, in the event that half or more than half of the chicks perish, we will send a free
replacement shipment, if the same breeds/varieties are available, or equivalent breeds, with
your approval. You will not be responsible for shipping costs on the reshipment. However, if the number of chicks lost is too few to meet the "safe minimum" in accordance with My
Pet Chicken's policies, you must purchase enough additional chicks to satisfy that safe
minimum in order to qualify for a free replacement shipment. Or, if you do not want a
reshipment, you may choose either a refund for the cost of the lost chicks and pro-rated
shipping, OR an equal number of free equivalent replacement chicks in a future order.
If a refund is chosen, My Pet Chicken will reimburse the cost of the chicks plus pro-rated
shipping. If you choose to have free equivalent replacement chicks in a future order
you will be responsible for shipping.
For baby chicks, in the event that an entire order perishes, you may opt for a free
reshipment of the same or equivalent chicks, if available or, alternatively, you may opt
for a full refund of the chick portion of your order, including the chick shipping cost.
In no instance will My Pet Chicken reimburse for an amount greater than the lost cost of the
chicks plus the flat-rate chick shipping fee. My Pet Chicken's obligation with regard to
the chick portion of your order is ended with the refund as above.
(In the event that chicks are lost on a full or partial reshipment, through no fault of your
own, and reported to My Pet Chicken as required above, My Pet Chicken will refund the cost
of the lost chicks only or, in the case of a second entire lost shipment, will refund the
cost of the entire lost order. In no instance will any refund exceed the amount paid for
the lost chicks. In either case, My Pet Chicken's obligation with regard to the lost chicks
is then ended. My Pet Chicken reserves the right to require verification of any and all losses, and to refuse to ship chicks to any zip code or address to which we have determined that the Post Office cannot safely deliver them.)
For Chick Packs™, we will refund your credit card on a pro-rated basis for any losses. We are unable to offer reshipments on Chick Packs.
For 6-Week-Old Chickens, we
will refund your credit card for any losses, plus a pro-rated portion of the shipping cost. If more than 50% of your order perishes, we may be able to offer you instead a reshipment of the birds you lost, depending on future availability of the breeds which perished. If this interests you, please discuss this option with the Customer Service Rep with whom you speak when you report your loss.
OTHER ISSUES WITH CHICK ORDERS:
In some rare cases, due to circumstances beyond our control, chickens do develop deformities, or due to a packing error, causes your order to have a missing chick or wrong breed shipped. However, we can only refund for the errors if you
notify us of any missing chicks within 48 hours of receipt, of any wrong breed sent within 19 weeks of the hatch date and of deformities as they become apparent, but no later than 22 weeks from the hatch date.
For baby chicks, in the event that fewer than half the chicks are missing, an incorrect breed shipped or deformities, we will refund your credit card for the cost of the chick(s). Alternatively, you may choose to have (a) free chick(s) of equal or lesser value on a future order. If you opt for the latter, you will be responsible for the cost of shipping, as well as enough additional chicks to meet the minimum allowable number of chicks for your zip code, in accordance with My Pet Chicken's "safe minimum" policies. Regardless of which option you choose, My Pet Chicken does not refund any part of shipping costs. Once My Pet Chicken has either reshipped your chick(s) or refunded as above, our obligation with regard to the lost chicks is ended.
100% SEXING ACCURACY GUARANTEE:
We guarantee that
any chickens you order will be the correct sex, and we will refund you in full for any sexing errors. Reporting times are a little different for different breeds, as follows:
For all breeds except Silkies, report the sexing error to us when your chicken is only between the ages of 10 and 18 weeks.
For Silkies, report the sexing
error to us when your chicken is only between the ages of 19 and 29 weeks.
My Pet Chicken reserves the right to require verification of any and all sexing errors.
FERTILE HATCHING EGGS GUARANTEE:
We guarantee that the fertile hatching eggs we send you will arrive intact and ready for incubation.
If any eggs arrive cracked or broken, just let us know within 2 business days of receiving them
in order to receive a refund or reshipment. My Pet Chicken will not credit or refund for any free eggs
which we've included with your order.
IMPORTANT: My Pet Chicken can not, under any circumstance, guarantee that your eggs will hatch! Even experienced poultry keepers
with high-end hatching equipment often have mixed hatching success.
GENERAL GUARANTEES, RETURNS & CANCELLATIONS
My Pet Chicken guarantees that any items you purchase will be received in good condition, and will make every effort to ensure your satisfaction. Many of our items come with their own guarantees. Refer to each product's detail pages to learn about those guarantees. For instance, all of our Chicken Coop Building Plans come with a 30-day money-back
guarantee. If for any reason you are not satisfied with the plans, let us know within
thirty days of placing your order, and we will promptly refund
your purchase in full.
If you've changed your mind, or are unsatisfied with the items you've purchased,
you may return them within 30 days for a full refund, minus shipping costs, unless otherwise noted. Simply let us know you're unhappy with the items, and we'll give you return instructions. Once we have received the items and deemed them fit for resale,
we'll promptly refund you.
If any of your items arrived damaged, let us know within four (4) business
days of receipt. We will either:
- Refund you in full or in part, depending on the extent of the damage;
- Replace your product with another of equal or greater value;
- Send you free, replacement parts (especially in the case of a chicken coop damaged in shipment).
Note: we may request photos of the damage to help us determine which replacement pieces to send, or we may require that
you return the item to us for inspection, at our cost.
We are happy to cancel any product purchase before it has shipped, and there is a $5 Cancellation Fee. (Excludes live animals or fertile hatching eggs.) Simply phone us to let us know
you'd like to cancel your order. Be sure to have your order number handy for the fastest processing.
If your item is already en route, we can still cancel your order, and you will be responsible for the full cost of shipping.
CHICKEN COOP CANCELLATIONS
Customized or Made-To-Order Coops: Many of our chicken coop models are and made to order to each client's individual specifications. We can accept cancellations for these custom-built chicken coops, as follows:
- When cancelled within 24 hours of placing your order, we will refund your credit card in full, if your coop hasn't begun being built, we will refund your credit card in full, less a 5% cancellation fee.
- Beyond 24 hours after placing your order, if your coop has begun being built, at the sole discretion of your coop's builder, you may be able to cancel your coop shipment, less a 20% restocking fee. If your coop's builder declines to allow cancellation, My Pet Chicken will refund you for the shipping amount you paid, and in addition we will make every effort to sell your coop to another party. If we are able to do so, we will refund to you whatever funds we were able to recover by selling your custom coop to another party, less a 10% service fee. (We don't want to leave you high and dry -- we understand that "stuff" happens!)
Coops: If you cancel your order before the coop leaves our warehouse,
we'll refund your credit card all but a $5 cancellation fee. If you cancel your order after it has left the warehouse,
or return it once it has arrived to you, you'll be responsible for shipping costs both ways, in addition to a 15%
restocking fee that will be assessed and withheld from the refund.
