Comfortably houses 4+ chickens
We designed the All-American coop to be extra-roomy for four or more chickens, with a full sixty-one linear inches of roosting space. The henhouse interior is 7.3 square feet, with an additional 13 square feet between the nest box and the included run, for over 20 total square feet. This chicken coop, like every one we sell at My Pet Chicken, is NOT intended for full-time confinement. The run is convenient when you can't let your flock roam freely, but make sure they have several hours per day in a larger run or free-ranging. (You can increase the size of your run! See below for details.)
Performs equally in the desert or New England winters...
Our customers in the desert will love the excellent ventilation and a white rot-proof roof that stays cool to the touch even in blazing sunlight. Customers in the north will appreciate that the snow can slide right off the high-pitched slippery aluminum roof. Included plexiglass inserts will protect the coop from rain and snow, while not being "airtight" to allow ventilation.
Sturdy design will hold up for years
Google other chicken coops and you'll see plenty of options for less--and as you know, you get what you pay for. While other choices may be attractive and only a few square feet smaller than our All-American coop, in our experience, they only last a couple of years. Our coop is made from sturdier materials, almost exclusively made in America. Posts are made from 2" x 2.5" lumber (cut from two by fours) vs. the 1" x .5" soft Chinese fir wood you'll see on other coops. Manufactured in a Connecticut sign shop, our rot-proof roof is made from the same, heavy weight enameled aluminum as road signs! It will not rust, bend, corrode or rot. (Corners have even been rounded and sanded with little ones in mind.)
Keep nasty predators out
Every door is protected by at least two latches to keep wily raccoons and foxes out, and 1/2" hardware cloth covers windows and the run panels. The door from the coop to the run secures from inside the house, to keep digging predators and rodents from bothering your ladies while they snooze. We highly recommend that you attach a length of hardware cloth to the footprint of the coop and run, too, using zip ties or staples. This way you don't need to worry about closing the run door except in the coldest weather.
Easy egg collection and cleaning
We designed this coop so you can access everything you need right on the front of the coop. Front doors, nest box, the door from the coop to the run and the large run door --you won't need to go around to the side or back for anything! This is particularly handy for those of you who'd like to position your coop right up against the side of another building.
To simplify cleaning, we've made the coop's front double doors swing wide open, and the roosts pop right out! The nest box door opens wide, and the 3" nest box lip slides up and out to make soiled bedding a breeze to remove.
Include up to six additional runs
The All-American coop can be purchased with unlimited additional runs! Add-On runs are the same size and shape as the included run. Although you would never keep your chickens enclosed in this coop full-time, many people do choose to add on extra runs. Some report that their girls spend mornings in the run before free-ranging for the day, and want to provide them more space; others provide their flock an extra-large sheltered place to while away their hours in "fowl" feather.
You may purchase as many additional runs as you like--up to three runs for each side of the coop! If you'd like to attach them to the existing run, purchase only the "Add-On Runs" from the menu at the top of the page. If you're into symmetry and you prefer a run on either side of the coop, you will need the "Opposite-Side Run" from the menu above. The add-on runs will connect to either the included run or the opposite-side run. The opposite-side run includes a door; the add-on runs do not.
Cozy nest box is down below...
...to keep your hens from being confused about where to roost at night! Our supersized nest box is plenty large to accommodate up to six hens. "A 3" removable lip will keep bedding material from being kicked out.
Pre-primed and ready for your creative input
We've pre-finished this coop, inside and out, with an exterior-grade, opaque stain. While this one coat will protect your coop, we recommend you finish it with an additional coat or two of your favorite oil-based stain or paint to keep your coop in ideal condition for years to come. (You'll notice we've decorated ours with the rooster from our Chicken Family Removable Wall Decal!)
Assembly takes one hour and a power drill
The All-American ships partially assembled, in panels, with pre-drilled holes. All the necessary hardware and instructions are included. Allow forty-five minutes to an hour for the build, and make sure you have a power drill with a phillips head bit ready to go. It helps to have a partner to build with, but if not, a C-clamp can help hold pieces together while you are fastening the screws.
Ships to your door, free!
The All-American ships via UPS Ground within 3 - 6 weeks of your order. The coop plus run package weighs 90 pounds, and additional runs weigh around 50 lbs.
Please note: we do not have a storefront and orders cannot be picked up from our location. We can only ship within the United States. Shipment of chicken coops is limited to the 48 contiguous states and not Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the other U.S. territories.
Your purchase creates meaningful employment
The All-American coop has been built by hand, with pride, by our partners at Creative Coops in Grass Valley, CA. Our contract with Creative Coops has helped create new jobs, playing a part in the revitalization of American manufacturing. In addition, all of our parts--with the exception of the hardware cloth and the barrel bolts--have been manufactured in America.
