Quality-made in America
The "Seymour" chicken coop has been made with pride in the USA, designed with durability in mind! All wood touching the ground is ACQ pressure-treated, 2x4 lumber. Hardware is heavy duty and zinc-galvanized, meaning it won't easily rust. The untreated fir siding and roof will weather beautifully, like cedar, and should last 10-15 years if left unfinished, depending on your local weather conditions--or upgrade to a structural steel, corrugated roof for an even longer life span! If you choose to stain, clear coat or paint your coop, it'll last even longer. Finally, the wire mesh in the run and ventilation slots is an incredibly sturdy 14-gauge, galvanized hardware cloth.
Good ventilation is so important for chickens, which are susceptible to respiratory issues. That's why this coop has dual, slide-open ventilation slots, each of which open to 5.75" wide x 5.25" tall. This will keep your flock well-ventilated at night, and during the day, the door into the attached run will also be open, providing them even better air flow.
Every potential point of entry on this coop is protected with heavy-duty locking mechanisms, so you can be sure your flock will sleep safe and sound after you lock them in at night. If you would like to leave open the door from the interior of the coop to the run at all times, it's important that you attach hardware cloth to the footprint of your coop to keep out predators that dig. You can either do this yourself, or purchase the wire floor package from the manufacturer in the "Flooring Options" menu above, which is panelized and screws right into your run.
Covered run for outdoor enjoyment
In rainy or snowy weather, chickens will often (grudgingly!) stay inside. The covered run included with this coop will ensure that your flock has access to the fresh outdoor air even when the weather is "foul." Plus, two of the run's walls under the coop are paneled for protection from breezes and snow. And you can purchase up to three additional runs to give your flock even more space!
The Seymour chicken coop's run door opens from the outside with the easy-pull nylon cord. Hooks the loop onto the coop to keep it open, and release it to let gravity close it. See close-up photos of this hook and loop system, above.
Please keep in mind that this chicken coop, like every one we sell at My Pet Chicken, is NOT intended for full-time confinement. The run is convenient when you can't let your flock roam freely, but make sure they have several hours per day in a larger run or free-ranging.
Easy egg collection
We love coops that have exterior nesting boxes, like the ones on the Seymour chicken coop. Simply unlatch and lift the lid to collect your eggs. (Make sure to re-latch it when you're done to keep out sneaky predators.)
Removable droppings tray and roosting pole make cleanup simple!
The whole footprint of the Seymour chicken coop is a droppings tray, lined with corrugated fiberglass paneling material, which won't rot, mold, mildew or decompose. When you start to notice an, eh-hem... odor... simply remove the droppings tray and dump the "goods" into your compost pile, and replace with fresh bedding! And when you want to do a full clean-out, just lift the roosting pole right out to make the job easier.
Paint it, stain it, or let it weather naturally
The Seymour chicken coop comes unfinished. The fir wood will achieve the a beautiful, weathered wood look over time, much like cedar. Alternately, you can clear coat the wood to bring out the richness of the grain, or stain or paint it to coordinate with your house colors! Whatever you decide to do, the attractive lines, handsome rooster on the door and diamond decorative elements will make this coop the centerpiece of any yard!
Personalize it with a metal roof and weather vane
If you love the look of this chicken coop, you can class it up even more with some economical "extras": corrugated, 29 gauge structural metal roofing in a variety of colors (with smart trim to prevent sharp edges), wire flooring to keep out rodents and digging predators, and an attractive rooster weather vane made from recycled aluminum and painted black!
This coop is shipped in 16 panels, ready for you to assemble with the help of a screw gun. (The largest/heaviest panel is approximately three feet by five feet, and weighs about 25 pounds.) All pilot holes are pre-drilled, hardware is included, and assembly instructions are easy to follow. Allow an hour to complete the build.
Please allow up to six weeks for your coop to arrive. It is shipped in a crate, on a shipping pallet, by common carrier, and will be dropped off at the end of your driveway using lift gate service (so you won't have any trouble getting it off the truck.) Dimensions are 42" wide x 72" long x 30" tall, and the whole pallet weighs 350 pounds.
Please note: we do not have a storefront and orders cannot be picked up from our location. Also, we can only ship within the United States. Shipment of chicken coops is limited to the 48 contiguous states but not Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the other U.S. territories.
