Drip-Free Nipple Drinker, 3 Gallons (6 nipples)
3 Gallon, 6 Nipple Drinker
Choose the de-icer option from the pull-down menu for hassle-free water all winter long! Save big over purchasing the de-icer separately.
This new line of nipple waterers was designed by a busy single mom (and My Pet Chicken customer!) who wanted a solution to all the most common waterer problems, and the result is a no-drip, clean, freeze-free watering solution that we are proud to offer.
The unique, horizontal nipple design--exclusively imported from Europe
by the designer--won't drip. Say goodbye to icy mounds under your water
in winter! The bucket is American-made, food-safe, and UV-resistant, and
its lid is designed to accommodate a bucket waterer de-icer (which you can add on to your purchase in the pull-down menu, above, for a big savings, or purchase later)
to eliminate the hassle of lugging waterers in and out of the house day
and night all winter long. The hole in the lid not only precisely
accommodates the de-icer, but also makes refilling a breeze! Due to the
unique nipple design that doesn't "hold" water, even in temps well below
freezing, your chickens will be sittin' pretty.
This three-gallon waterer contains six nipples, and each nipple accommodates up to five hens, so we recommend this size waterer for flocks of twenty-five to thirty chickens. If that's overkill for you, we offer the smaller 2 gallon, two nipple drinker--or you can purchase the nipples separately and attach them to your own system! Also take a look at our baby chick brooder bottle using these same nipples.
Nipple waterers have long been favored for the ease of cleaning: there's no tray for dirty beaks to soak in! Dirtied water doesn't get pulled back into the container, so you'll only need to clean your waterer it every few weeks or so. Due to the UV-resistant bucket, algae growth will be minimal to non-existent, depending on where you place the waterer. (In other words, put it inside the coop, and you'll have to clean it less!)
To get chickens started using the nipples we suggest tapping on each nipple so that water
fills the reservoir which chicken’s will see and they will drink. They
will then peck at the stainless steel pin which will release more water.
If chickens have a difficult time figuring it out we suggest putting
any kind of sweet jam or jelly onto the nipples. It is very important
to take all other water sources out during this time.
Some assembly is required. The buckets come pre-drilled, all you do is screw in the nipples.
Note: The manufacturer recommends screwing the nipples in 80%, they do not need to have the flange secured flush with the bucket.
Hanging Accessory Package
The optional hanging accessory package includes four feet of chain and the proper-sized S-hooks, so you can save yourself a trip to the hardware store! The designer of this drinker says you can place it on the ground but, recommends you hang it 6 - 8 inches off the ground; higher for adult standard sized chickens.
