Garden Run Building Plans (Half-Height Module)

The Half-Height Design

Measuring about 5'wide x 3'deep x 4-1/2'high with a footprint of 15 square feet, the run provides shade and a secure, varied habitat for your chickens. It connects to just about any coop. Build one or more as designed or use the plans to jump start your own creativity! Keep in mind, rainwater drains into the run below just as if it were open-air. If you prefer, you can build the corrugated roof described in the plans instead of the garden top. Each unit in the Garden Run series is built atop a secure foundation to protect your flock from digging pests and predators. Note: This chicken run is not meant to be your chickens' primary shelter. You will still need to attach a coop or hen house.

Tools Needed: Circular saw or miter saw, power drill/driver and a few drill bits, tape measurer, level (helpful for larger configurations), pencil, pair of sawhorses, handsaw (helpful for quick cuts), hammer, combination or speed square, a couple clamps with a 3” capacity, wire/metal snips for 19-gauge wire or heavier, sandpaper or a power sander, paintbrush, drop cloth, pneumatic stapler with compressor (optional, but helpful for larger configurations), heavy-duty staple gun (optional, for securing landscape fabric to garden top), scissors for cutting landscape fabric for garden top, and a shovel and wheelbarrow for filling it with planting medium
