Description:
Don't want to spend big bucks on a chicken coop? Have decent carpentry skills? Build your own! These building plans - complete with diagrams and photos - will help you build the coop pictured here.
The "Ready Coop" is ready to go anywhere! It's easy to disassemble, clean, move and reassemble. The stackable panels can fit in the bed of a half-ton pickup truck. And best of all, the Ready Coop has been designed to resist even the strongest predators--bears. Bears push, pry, and flip over objects of interest. The plans for the Ready Coop include securing it through foundation blocks to make it impossible for bears to flip. Nest boxes are fully inside the coop, leaving no protrusions for bears to lean on, and doors are securely framed with trim so a bear would have to rip the trim off before having a try at a door. The plan designer reports that in six years in bear country, the only damage to her Ready Coop was to a small section of trim--and the bear was unable to gain entry to her coop.
The other main benefit of the Ready Coop: it's ideal for cold climates. The insulated, multi-level roosting area, with an insulated window and vent plugs (not shown) keep chickens safe from frostbite in temperatures well below zero.
Access points are smart: the entire front of the coop is one large door, so you can easily access and clean the inside--but if you just want to collect eggs or swap out feed and water, there are small doors on the back.
Dimensions
Coop stands 6' high, the low "ground range" area is 4' high, and the total ground area covered is 4' x 8'
Materials Cost
Plan on $700 - $800 for all new materials, depending on your location.
