Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Give chicks access to plain water at the same time you're offering the electrolyte mix. Electrolyte water is not a substitute for regular hydration, and some chicks will drink more than others. Having plain water available makes sure no one gets too much of a good thing.
Not necessarily. Most healthy chicks ship well and do fine with fresh plain water from the start. The electrolytes are most useful if your chicks arrive after a long transit, seem lethargic, or are slow to eat and drink. They can give stressed birds a quick pick-me-up when they need it.
The individual packets keep well sealed, and if you want to hold on to extras, they'll keep a long time in the freezer. It's worth having a few on hand since they're most useful when you need them fast: when chicks just arrived, when the heat spikes, or when a bird seems off.
