Not Especially Heat Hardy
Hardy in Winter
Buckeyes are a critically endangered breed worth preserving! They are also the only chicken breed of the American Class to have been developed by a woman (in—you guessed it—the buckeye state, Ohio). Their coloring is a rich mahogany brown with dark gray tips on their tail feathers.
Buckeyes are especially docile and can go broody. Their relatively large size and small pea combs make them winter layers and very cold hardy. They are fair layers of brown eggs, year round, and have a reputation for being good mousers.
All Started Pullets are shipped USPS Express Mail. These pullets will be vaccinated for Marek's disease and will be 6 weeks old when shipped.
Please keep your 6-week-olds quarantined from your existing flock for four or more weeks, and take care when introducing them.
