I was reading about the breeds that are exclusive to My Pet Chicken, and decided to comment on the Silked White Easter Egger. This bird is a bit of a dream come true for me. After coveting silkies for five years, I finally purchased two pullets. Adorable! and I will never again own them. TOO HIGH MAINTENANCE. First, I had to build them their own roost. Then, I had to train them to use it, which took LOTS of patience, THEN, when winter arrived, they decided to overnight ON THE FLOOR in the coldest corner of the barn, away from the Sweeter Heater. Additionally, they would follow the other chickens into the outdoor run and then couldn’t figure out how to go back inside. They were beautiful and fragile and a lot of worry, but I gave it my all and eventually lost them, anyway. THEN, I saw your Silked White Easter Egger. All the beauty of the the Silky without the hassle. Gypsy and Silvya are easy birds that lay decent-sized eggs. They are moderately athletic (easily fly to the roosts), robust, and eye-catching (visitors ALWAYS pick them right out of my flock of 40). Neither is particularly friendly, but both are docile and non-aggressive. They easily integrated into my existing flock and live harmoniously in my (very) mixed-breed flock, with the tiny Mille Fleur and the LF Cochins, alike. Neither has gone broody, which for me is a bonus, because I do not keep a rooster. I just love these birds!

Thank you for sharing your experience! We are so sorry to hear about the challenges you faced with your Silkies, but we’re delighted that our Silked White Easter Eggers turned out to be such a great fit for your flock. They really do offer the best of both worlds with their beautiful silkie feathering combined with the hardiness and practicality of a standard feathered breed. It is wonderful to hear that Gypsy and Sylvia have integrated so well into your diverse flock and continue to capture everyone’s attention. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share such a thoughtful comparison, and we hope they continue to bring you plenty of colorful eggs and enjoyment for years to come.
